John Plunkett Joins Faculty Guild as Founding Chief Operating Officer
APPOINTMENT OF EXPERIENCED OPERATIONS AND MARKETING EXECUTIVE MARKS NEXT STEP FOR ORGANIZATION FOCUSED ON IMPROVING FACULTY ENGAGEMENT IN STUDENT SUCCESS
ARLINGTON, Va. – August 28, 2017 — Faculty Guild, an educational services organization dedicated to better student outcomes by helping higher education faculty members improve their own teaching through re-invented and personalized professional development, has named John Plunkett as its chief operating officer.
Through professional facilitators, a community of peers, and easy-to-use online software, the company offers faculty members an opportunity to genuinely and authentically consider their own teaching choices through the prism of research-based quality teaching practice. As a result, faculty members become more aware and mindful of their efforts and more engaged in the art and science of quality teaching. The company’s approach is based on six years of research, development, application and analysis, led by Dr. Gail Mellow, president of LaGuardia Community College.
“John’s passion for education, technology and student success – and our proven track record together at Starfish Retention Solutions – make him an obvious choice for the role of COO,” said David Yaskin, CEO of the company. “In our team’s work at Complete College America, Starfish (now part of Hobsons) and Blackboard, we have seen appropriate focus put on the game changers that help students increase momentum and overcome challenges to achieve graduation. For years, we have wondered though if higher education was doing enough to help faculty help students. Inspired by the work of Dr. Mellow and her colleagues, Faculty Guild is set out to address this important gap in the student success conversation.”
Plunkett is an executive with more than 25 years of education technology experience. He most recently served as senior vice president of marketing and external relations for Hobsons. Prior to Hobsons, he was the senior vice president of strategy and marketing for Starfish Retention Solutions, which was acquired by Hobsons in 2015. He has also held marketing executive roles for Blackboard Inc. and GetWellNetwork, Inc.
